Warning Issued For Mexico As Hurricane Bud Moves Towards Coastline

Atlanta 5/24/2012 09:18 PM GMT (WooEB)

Parts of southwest Mexico were put under a tropical storm warning Thursday as Hurricane Bud upgraded to a category 2 storm and continued moving towards the coastline. In an afternoon advisory, the National Hurricane Center predicted the center of the storm will near Mexico’s southwest coast “late Friday and Saturday.” Bud is not expected to make landfall.

The tropical storm warning affects coastal areas from Punto Telmo to Cabo Corrientes. The National Hurricane Center warned of heavy rain ranging from 4 to 6 inches.

"These rainfall amounts could produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides,” the center said.

Bud is traveling north-northeast about 9 mph with maximum sustained winds of about 110 mph. The hurricane is expected to begin weakening tonight or tomorrow.
